That Most Important Thing: Love

(1975)Directed by Andrzej Żuławski113 min · RDrama, Romance

Servais Mont (Fabio Testi) takes compromising photographs for a living, and he cannot stop looking at Nadine Chevalier (Romy Schneider), a tormented actress working in cheap films. She is married to Jacques (Jacques Dutronc), an eccentric collector of film photographs, and her career runs through the hard, unforgiving world of French show business. Żuławski shoots the whole thing close and grainy, with a handheld camera that stays on the faces until they break.
