That Night's Wife

Shuji (Tokihiko Okada) is a working man in Depression-era Japan whose small daughter, Michiko, is critically ill and needs money he doesn't have. He robs someone to get it and runs home with the cash. Yasujirō Ozu keeps the story inside the family, where Shuji and his wife Mayumi (Emiko Yagumo) wait out the night together over their child's bed.
