That'll Be The Day

(1973)Directed by Claude Whatham87 minMusic, Drama

Jim MacLaine (David Essex) is a restless schoolboy in 1958 Britain who walks away from his exams and his home for a string of low-level jobs at a seaside amusement park, where he finds cheap sex and petty crime. Claude Whatham follows him back to his mother (Rosemary Leach) as rock and roll takes over the local scene. She keeps taking him in, and he keeps leaving her worse off.
