The 4th Man

“Christine is young, beautiful and rich. Her three husbands all died tragically. It's time for Christine to find her fourth man.”

Gerard Reve (Jeroen Krabbé), a writer who drinks too much and sleeps with men and women, goes home with Christine (Renée Soutendijk) after a lecture. She has buried three husbands already, and he starts to wonder how. Paul Verhoeven fills Gerard's nights with visions he cannot sort from waking, and the longing that draws him to Christine's other lover, Herman (Thom Hoffman), runs straight into his fear of her.
