The Abyss

(1989)Directed by James Cameron140 min · PG-13Adventure, Thriller, Science Fiction
“When you get there, you will understand.”

Virgil "Bud" Brigman (Ed Harris) runs the crew of a deep-sea oil platform, men who work in cramped pressurized quarters. When an American submarine goes down in the Caribbean, his team is pulled into the recovery, with a Navy SEAL unit under Lieutenant Coffey (Michael Biehn) in tow. Cameron puts Bud and his estranged wife Lindsey (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) in the same cold, narrow space, still carrying everything they left unsaid.
