The Accidental Tourist

(1988)Directed by Lawrence Kasdan121 min · PGComedy, Drama, Romance
“Macon Leary was set in his ways. The way he lived, thought and worked. He imagined it would always be like that. Until an unusual woman showed him the way it could be.”

Macon Leary (William Hurt) writes guidebooks for people who hate travel, and since his son's death he moves through his own days the same way, going through the motions. His wife Sarah (Kathleen Turner) leaves, and he meets Muriel Pritchett (Geena Davis), a loud, eccentric dog trainer who won't leave him alone. Lawrence Kasdan's film is about grief that makes a person shrink, and how a stranger's noise can pull them back out.
