In an Edwardian London household, Lord Loam (Cecil Parker) likes to say that servants and masters are equals, though only on certain afternoons. His butler Crichton (Kenneth More) disagrees, and thinks everyone is happiest knowing their place. Lewis Gilbert sends them all onto a desert island, where the family has no idea how to light a fire and Crichton does, and the ranks they live by are suddenly at risk.
