A piece of wood changes hands between two carpenters, and from it Mastro Geppetto (Nino Manfredi), poor and alone, carves a puppet to keep him company. Pinocchio (Andrea Balestri) talks and moves the moment he exists, and Gina Lollobrigida appears as the Fata. Comencini made this for Rai 1 in five weekly parts, drawing on Collodi's 1883 novel and running 280 minutes in all.
