The Adversary

“Man vs. Metropolis”

Siddhartha Chaudhuri (Dhritiman Chatterjee) has to give up his medical studies when his father suddenly dies, and he goes looking for work in 1960s Calcutta. Satyajit Ray follows him through interviews and waiting rooms in a city of corruption and unemployment, where his activist brother and his career-minded sister each pull him toward a side. Siddhartha belongs to neither, and he keeps on knocking at doors.
