The Affair

In 1967 Japan, Oriko (Mariko Okada) is a young woman who judges her widowed mother (Yoshie Minami) harshly for taking younger men as lovers. Years later her mother is dead and Oriko is stuck in a marriage without warmth, and Yoshishige Yoshida follows her as she starts to see the woman she once condemned differently. The film sets two women side by side, one gone and one still living, and the distance between them keeps closing.
