The Assassin

In 1961 Rome, the antiques dealer Alfredo Martelli (Marcello Mastroianni) is collected by the police without being told why. Inside the precinct he learns that Commissario Palumbo (Salvo Randone) considers him the main suspect in the death of his wealthy former lover, Adalgisa De Matteis (Micheline Presle). Elio Petri's debut sets a man who lives on charm and other people's money against a system that has already settled on his guilt.
