The Nephew (Henry B. Walthall) lives under the rule of his uncle (Spottiswoode Aitken), who forbids his love for the Sweetheart (Blanche Sweet). He stews on it until murder starts to look like a natural part of life, and then he kills the old man and hides the body. D.W. Griffith, adapting Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "Annabel Lee," follows the Nephew as his paranoia grows and his conscience begins to show him visions.
