How does a boy from a Baltimore orphanage, taught the game by Brother Mathias (James Cromwell), become the biggest name in baseball? John Goodman plays Babe Ruth, and Arthur Hiller follows him from the Red Sox to New York, through two marriages, including Claire (Kelly McGillis), and a string of suspensions. It is a story of a man who grabs everything he was once denied, and what that appetite does to him.
