Bill Palet (J.K. Simmons) is a widower who takes a teaching job at a private school on the other side of the country, bringing his teenage son Wes (Josh Wiggins) along. Kurt Voelker puts the two of them in a new town, new rooms, new faces, and a grief neither knows how to talk about. Two women, Carine (Julie Delpy) and Lacy (Odeya Rush), come into their lives, and both father and son have to decide whether they are ready to be known by someone again.
