The Baker's Wife

The village had no baker, and then one arrives, Aimable (Raimu), with a wife, Aurélie (Ginette Leclerc), who is beautiful and much younger than he is. The morning after his first loaves come out of the oven, she is gone, off with a shepherd, and the villagers who laughed at him soon realize they have no bread. Marcel Pagnol follows Aimable, who cannot bring himself to bake again, a man whose pride has gone out of him along with his wife.
