The Band Wagon

“Get Aboard!”

Tony Hunter (Fred Astaire) is a film star whose best years are behind him, and a Broadway comeback is meant to bring them back. His friends Lester (Oscar Levant) and Lily Marton (Nanette Fabray) write the show, but the director, Jeffrey Cordova (Jack Buchanan), turns it into a pretentious retelling of Faust. Vincente Minnelli puts Tony opposite the ballerina Gabrielle Gerard (Cyd Charisse), who looks down on him and is not shy about it.
