The Bat

(1926)Directed by Roland West86 minComedy, Mystery, Thriller, Horror
“A laugh with every gasp!”

Someone in a bat costume is loose in an old house, and nobody under its roof knows who is wearing the mask. The mystery writer who rented the place is Cornelia Van Gorder (Emily Fitzroy), and her housemaid Lizzie Allen (Louise Fazenda) is the first to panic. Roland West plays the fear for laughs and for chills at once, a silent film's way of showing that being scared and being silly can happen in the same room.
