The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms

(1953)Directed by Eugène Lourié80 minDrama, Horror, Science Fiction
“You'll see it tear a city apart!”

Thomas Nesbitt (Paul Christian) is a physicist stationed above the Arctic Circle when an atomic test blows open the ice and wakes a dinosaur that has been frozen for millions of years. Eugène Lourié follows the creature as it moves toward New York, with Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion animation giving it weight. The Rhedosaurus is huge and slow to turn, and the Arctic ice it came out of has already broken apart behind it.
