“With Burt and Dolly, this much fun just couldn't be legal!”

Mona Stangley (Dolly Parton) runs the Chicken Ranch, a Texas brothel that has stood for generations, and she runs it with a tidy ledger and a soft spot for her girls. Her old flame, Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd (Burt Reynolds), has looked the other way for years. Then Melvin P. Thorpe (Dom DeLuise), a television crusader, starts broadcasting against the place, and Colin Higgins turns the fight into song, a story about who gets to decide how a town lives.
