The Big Red One

(1980)Directed by Samuel Fuller162 min · PGDrama, War
“Only chance could have thrown them together. Now, nothing can pull them apart.”

The Sergeant (Lee Marvin), a veteran of the first World War, wants to keep a handful of young riflemen alive through the second. His squad is Griff (Mark Hamill), Zab (Robert Carradine), Vinci (Bobby Di Cicco) and Johnson (Kelly Ward), and Samuel Fuller walks them from Vichy French Africa through Sicily and Omaha Beach. The war has no pattern the men can learn, only places to be and a way of staying alive that goes on until a concentration camp in Czechoslovakia.
