The Big Trail

(1930)Directed by Raoul Walsh122 minDrama, Western
“A mighty drama of the early pioneers”

Breck Coleman (John Wayne) is a young scout who signs on to lead a wagon train west to Oregon, and he has two things on his mind besides the trail. One is Ruth Cameron (Marguerite Churchill), a pioneer woman he wants to win over, and the other is revenge on the men who killed a friend of his. Raoul Walsh shot it in 1930 on location across the American West, and the wagons stretch across the wide frame, a long line of canvas under open sky.
