Sam Dalmas (Tony Musante), an American writer stuck in Rome with a blocked book and a plane ticket home, wants only to leave. Then he sees a woman attacked inside an art gallery, and the police keep his passport while a killer targets young women across the city. Dario Argento, directing his first feature, stays close on Sam and his girlfriend Julia (Suzy Kendall) as the case closes around them.
