The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant

“Sex is the ultimate weapon.”

Petra von Kant (Margit Carstensen) is a successful fashion designer who wants, above all, to be adored, and she has no patience for the maid and co-designer Marlene who works beside her. Then Karin (Hanna Schygulla), a 23-year-old who wants to be a model, comes through the door, and Petra invites her to move in. Fassbinder keeps the camera inside Petra's home, where the women gather around her bed and her wigs, a mannequin standing in the room.
