Thomas Mollison (Rhys Wakefield) is about to turn sixteen, newly arrived in a town in New South Wales, with his father posted to the army and his mother pregnant. His older brother Charlie (Luke Ford) is autistic, and in public Thomas would rather not be seen with him. Elissa Down puts Jackie (Gemma Ward), a girl from his swim class, in the middle of the house, and Thomas has to decide whether he can have her and still stand next to his brother.
