“Struggle in the Valley”

Amal (Faten Hamama) is the daughter of Taher Pasha (Zaki Rostom), a landlord who owns the village and the land it works, and she loves Ahmed (Omar Sharif), a young man from among his peasants. Youssef Chahine sets their courtship in the fields along the Nile in southern Egypt. When the Pasha floods the village to stop them profiting, he has no idea his own daughter's heart is among what he is putting underwater.
