Sallow (Rutger Hauer) once played in the big Leagues, until he was cast out over a woman, and now he drags a rag-tag team from one dusty settlement to the next. Kidda (Joan Chen), a young peasant girl with ambition and a talent for the brutal game of jugging, joins them, and the team gets one last shot at glory. David Webb Peoples lets the older player and the newcomer size each other up through the games, before either says what the other means to them.
