The Bonfire of the Vanities

Sherman McCoy (Tom Hanks) is a Wall Street bond trader with a wife, a daughter, and a Park Avenue apartment he thinks he has earned. Then his mistress Maria Ruskin (Melanie Griffith) runs over a black teenager, and a down-and-out reporter, Peter Fallow (Bruce Willis), breaks the story. Brian De Palma keeps both of them in the frame as Sherman's lie to Maria and her hold over him tighten.
