Nobody can say why the Devil, Jesus Christ, and Christ's assistant Magdalena (PJ Harvey) are sharing a table in New York on the last night of 1999, arguing over when the world should end. Jesus (Martin Donovan) has come back to start the apocalypse, and Satan (Thomas Jay Ryan) has opinions about it. Hal Hartley shoots it flat and quiet, and the actors deliver every line in the same dry, unhurried voice.
