The Book Thief

“Courage beyond words.”

Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nélisse) is a young girl sent to live with adoptive parents in Nazi Germany, where she begins stealing books she is only just learning to read. Her foster father Hans (Geoffrey Rush) teaches her the words, while Rosa (Emily Watson) keeps the household in line and a Jewish refugee, Max (Ben Schnetzer), hides under the stairs. Brian Percival films the war from a child's height, with John Williams's score running beneath it.
