The Border

“When Charlie Smith went down to the border, he found more than a boundary between Texas and Mexico. He found a line within himself.”

Charlie Smith (Jack Nicholson) takes a border patrol job in El Paso to keep his wife Marcy (Valerie Perrine) in the new things she wants. His partner Cat (Harvey Keitel) already takes money to look away, and Charlie goes along. Tony Richardson puts Charlie in the same room as Maria (Elpidia Carrillo), a young woman whose baby is being sold, and a man who has stopped looking away has to decide what he owes her.
