The Bostonians

“An intimate and exquisite probe of the feminist heart.”

Basil Ransome (Christopher Reeve), a lawyer from the South with time on his hands, sets out to win Verena Tarrant (Madeleine Potter), the young daughter of a faith healer. Olive Chancellor (Vanessa Redgrave), a committed suffragette, has already claimed Verena as the voice of her cause, and James Ivory follows the two of them pulling at her. Under the quarrel sits a plain question of whether a woman's life is hers to give to a cause or to a husband.
