The Boxer

“Love is always worth fighting for.”

Danny Flynn (Daniel Day-Lewis) walks out of prison after fourteen years for his part in the I.R.A., wanting only to box again in the Belfast neighborhood he left. Jim Sheridan puts him back among old faces, including Maggie Hamill (Emily Watson), the sixteen-year-old girlfriend he left behind. Day-Lewis trained as a boxer in Ireland for a year, and he stands in the ring with his gloves up and his working-class street behind him.
