The Boy in Blue

“Every era has its own kind of hero.”

Ned Hanlan (Nicolas Cage) is a wild young man who wants to row faster than anyone in Canada, and at the turn of the 20th century that is also a way to eat. A gambler takes him in and bets on his sculling, then Knox (Christopher Plummer) takes over his career. Charles Jarrott follows Ned toward Walter (Sean Sullivan), the first honest man he has dealt with, and a boat on the water in his blue racing colors.
