The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

(2008)Directed by Mark Herman94 min · PG-13Drama, War, History
“Lines may divide us, but hope will unite us.”

Eight-year-old Bruno (Asa Butterfield) wants an adventure, and a move from Berlin to a bare house in Poland gives him a bored, lonely childhood instead. From his bedroom window he sees a fence in the distance, and past it a boy named Shmuel, in what Bruno takes for striped pajamas. Mark Herman tells it from Bruno's height, so the war reaches us only as a child can understand it, which is barely at all.
