Milly (Lucy Deakins) moves to a new neighborhood with her brother Louis (Fred Savage) and their recently widowed mother, Charlene (Bonnie Bedelia), each of them carrying a private trouble into the new house. Next door lives Eric (Jay Underwood), an autistic boy who stands on rooftops with his arms out, fascinated by flight. Nick Castle follows Milly as she befriends him, and she starts to feel she belongs in a place she never wanted to come to.
