The Brasher Doubloon

(1947)Directed by John Brahm72 minMystery, Crime
“Some women can't stand cats ... with me it's men!”

Philip Marlowe (George Montgomery) is a private detective hired by the wealthy Mrs. Murdock (Florence Bates) to track down a rare gold coin, the Brasher Doubloon, once part of her late husband's collection. The search goes badly almost at once, with unexplained murders turning up wherever he looks. John Brahm keeps Marlowe's attention on Merle Davis (Nancy Guild), the nervous young secretary in Mrs. Murdock's house, who trusts him more than she should.
