The Breaking Point

(1950)Directed by Michael Curtiz97 minCrime, Drama
“A guy who had nothing to sell but guts!”

Harry Morgan (John Garfield), a fishing-boat captain with a wife and daughters and bills he can't cover, starts hiring out his boat to men the law is looking for. Michael Curtiz follows him through the harbor and the docks as the work pulls him toward Leona Charles (Patricia Neal) and away from his wife, Lucy (Phyllis Thaxter). It is a film about how little a man with a family has to lose before he stops weighing the cost.
