Marianne Danielle (Yvonne Monlaur), a young teacher bound for a ladies' school in Transylvania, finds a young man chained in a castle and frees him against his mother's wishes. Terence Fisher fills the Baroness Meinster's (Martita Hunt) house with candlelight and heavy drapes, and Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) is already on the road toward them. Marianne believes she has done a kindness, and Baron Meinster (David Peel) is the one who owes her for it.
