The Bridge

(1959)Directed by Bernhard Wicki103 minDrama, History, War
“Boys and Girls Dream of love,Manhood and Womanhood to DIscover a World of Violence !”

Hans Scholten (Folker Bohnet) and his classmates want what they have been taught to want: a real fight, a place in the war before it ends. In the last months of World War II they are ordered to hold a small bridge in their village, while defeated Wehrmacht soldiers pour past them toward the retreat. Bernhard Wicki builds the film on the bond between Hans and Albert Mutz (Fritz Wepper), boys who face the bridge together.
