The Bridge on the River Kwai

(1957)Directed by David Lean162 min · PGDrama, History, War
“It spans a whole new world of entertainment!”

Why would a British colonel in a Japanese prison camp in Burma agree to build the enemy a bridge? Col. Nicholson (Alec Guinness) and his men are put to work on one, and David Lean sets the job against Col. Saito (Sessue Hayakawa) and the jungle. Nicholson comes to care about the bridge more than the war, while Shears (William Holden) and an intelligence team plan to destroy it.
