“Find the joy.”

A hospital room holds two beds, and in them lie Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson), a billionaire who owns the building, and Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman), a mechanic with a head full of trivia. Both have been given months, so they write down everything they never did and leave together on a road trip. Rob Reiner keeps the camera on the two of them, trading jokes and old regrets, and lets their friendship carry the film.
