The Burning Soil

When old Rog (Werner Krauss) dies, the farm passes to his eldest son Peter (Eugen Klöpfer), while the youngest, Johannes (Vladimir Gajdarov), wants no part of the land. He takes a post as secretary to Count Rudenburg and begins courting the Count's daughter Gerda (Lya De Putti). Murnau made it the same year as Nosferatu, and here the Count is dying, his second wife stands to inherit a field with petroleum beneath it, and Johannes has everything to gain or lose.
