“Evil will surface.”

Coffey (Karl Geary) wants only to bring a vanished settler family home to the Dakota Territories in 1879, so he rides out with a rescue party led by John Clay (Clancy Brown). The men assume they are chasing a band of fierce natives. J.T. Petty films the open plains in slow, patient takes, letting the dread build in the stretches between the men's voices.
