The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

“You must become Caligari!”

Francis (Friedrich Fehér) sets out to tell what happened to him and his fiancée Jane (Lil Dagover), and it begins at a fairground, where he and his friend Alan visit the exhibit of Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss). The doctor shows a somnambulist named Cesare (Conrad Veidt), woken briefly from a death-like sleep. Robert Wiene paints the streets and rooms as sharp, leaning shapes, and the story turns on whether anyone can trust what a mind remembers.
