Why does a screenplay about Italy's prime minister keep getting turned down, even by the state broadcaster? Bruno Bonomo (Silvio Orlando), once a producer of B-movies in the seventies, has been out of work for years, and Paola (Margherita Buy) is no longer sure about the marriage. Nanni Moretti keeps Bruno at the centre, a tired man in a rumpled coat, carrying the script from office to office.
