The Candidate

(1972)Directed by Michael Ritchie110 min · PGComedy, Drama
“Bill McKay has a lot going for him...but nothing compared to what's coming.”

Why would a political operative hand a Senate race to a man he expects to lose? Marvin Lucas (Peter Boyle) recruits Bill McKay (Robert Redford), a lawyer and the son of a former governor, and tells him he can say whatever he likes. Michael Ritchie follows the campaign through California, and the more McKay speaks, the more the men around him start to count votes.
