The Captive

“The author of Don Quixote left an incredible story untold. His own.”

Miguel (Julio Peña) is a young Spanish soldier in 1575 when Barbary pirates take him at sea and carry him to Algiers as a hostage. His captor is Hasán Bajá (Alessandro Borghi), and the two men size each other up across a long, uneasy acquaintance. Amenábar keeps the clock running on his ransom, with a cruel death waiting if his family does not pay, and Miguel has only his stories to hold onto.
