Dr. Jonathan Chamberlain (Richard Harris), a neurosurgeon traveling with his wife Jennifer (Sophia Loren), is aboard a European train when word comes that a deadly disease has spread among the passengers. Nobody will let them off. George P. Cosmatos packs the cast into narrow corridors and sealed compartments, and the train keeps rolling toward a derelict bridge.
