The Cat and the Canary

(1939)Directed by Elliott Nugent73 minComedy, Horror, Mystery
“A CHILL-AND-CHUCKLE CHASE!...A FORTUNE AT STAKE AND A MONSTER AT LARGE!”

A group of potential heirs gathers in a forbidding old mansion in the Louisiana bayou, said to be haunted, to hear the reading of a dead man's will. Then word comes that a flesh-rending maniac is loose, and Wally Campbell (Bob Hope) and Joyce Norman (Paulette Goddard) are among those stuck inside with it. Elliott Nugent stages the frights as comedy, and a fortune turns out to be a good reason to keep people in a house.
