“Every family has a secret.”

Christian (Ulrich Thomsen) comes home for his father's 60th birthday with a speech he has been holding back, and nobody at the table knows what it contains. Thomas Vinterberg gathers the whole family in one house for a single night, among them his brother Michael (Thomas Bo Larsen) and his sister Helene (Paprika Steen). Henning Moritzen's Faderen sits at the head of the dinner, glass in hand, waiting for the toasts to begin.
